Children At Play
(CAP)

If your children need supervision before and after school, the CAP program is perfect for you. The Park District, School Districts 21, 25 and 59 and the Village of Arlington Heights have worked together to provide quality before and after school care. The Park District hires, trains, and supervises the staff and is responsible for the daily program. The School District houses the program and provides custodial service. The Village provides scholarship to families needing financial assistance and residing within the village boundaries.

We are very excited and pleased by the continued success of CAP and are committed to providing a safe, recreational program.

About the program:
CAP is held right at your child's school during the school year, Monday through Friday from 7-9 am and 3:30-6 pm. It is relaxed and recreational versus developmental or educational, so as not to be a duplication of the school day. Activities may include and are not limited to: arts & crafts, sports & games, outdoor play, homework time, board & card games, breakfast, and snack. Most of our children are registered for the entire year and may attend full or partial weeks. If openings are available, children may also register after the school year has begun. Full day coverage from 7:00 am until 6:00 pm is also provided on certain days off school at designated locations.
Who can participate:
Children in kindergarten through fifth grade enrolled in one of the schools listed below are welcome. Kindergarteners are able to participate on a limited basis; morning kindergartners are eligible for before school care and afternoon kindergartners are eligible for after school care.
Locations:
Dryden, Greenbrier, Ivy Hill, Olive-Mary Stitt, Patton, Westgate, and Windsor Schools in District 25, Poe and Riley Schools in District 21, and Juliette Low School in District 59.
CAP Employees:
Background checks are conducted on all of our employees. We hire both male and female leaders. About half of our team is college-aged students. The other half is made up of older adults up to and including seniors and we have a few high school students, too. Site directors and assistant site directors are CPR/AED certified. Are you a dedicated, fun-loving, hard-working individual who enjoys children? Job opportunities are available in the CAP program. In fact, it’s perfect for moms, students, and retirees. If interested, fill out an application on our website at ahpd.org.

The completed forms are returned to the Park District Administration Center with the appropriate deposit. Registrations can be mailed, put in the night drop box (available 24 hours a day) or delivered in-person Monday through Friday between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.

A deposit for each child is required to enroll in the program. The deposit is applied toward the annual fees. See registration form for fees. A discount is available if two or more children are enrolled in the program. The additional child's/children's fees are reduced by approximately 10%. A 5% discount is available when the program fee is paid in full upon enrollment, when enrollment begins prior to December 3.

All registrations received prior to the first day of registration are randomly sorted with any registrations received by 5:00 p.m. on the first day. After that, registrations are randomly processed on a daily basis. Any registrations received after 5:00 p.m. or over the weekend are processed with all other registrations received on the next business day. This ensures fairness regardless of what method of registration is used. If an opening is available, the child is placed in the program and a confirmation card sent. If an opening is not available in the plan that has been requested, the Coordinator contacts the parent and offers an alternative plan if one is available. If no alternative is available the child is placed on a waiting list.

All correspondence from CAP billing will be mailed “To the parents” at the child’s address unless we are notified otherwise.

Once the school year begins, registration requires approval. After receipt of the forms and deposit the parent is notified by phone. The child can start in the program 4 business days after notification of acceptance into the program. The installment amount will be adjusted and is different than the amount listed on the registration form.
