The Arlington Heights Historical Society was founded in 1957 by a group of citizens concerned with preserving their local heritage. To date, the Society is charge of overseeing over 50,000 artifacts. The Historical Society is a not-for-profit organization that strives to enrich people’s lives by connecting them to the past through inspiring programs, exhibits and stories. The Society fulfills its mission through memberships, donations, and sponsorships.
The mission of the Society shall be the collection, interpretation, preservation and presentation of information and objects concerning the history of Arlington Heights and its surrounding area.

The Arlington Heights Historical Society maintains collections of local artifacts and documents, presents historical exhibits to the public each year, is responsible for the restoration and interpretation of a five building complex and sponsors local historical events throughout the year. Work with our Collections
The Arlington Heights Historical Museum is home to over 50,000 artifacts. We are looking for volunteers to help maintain and organize these important pieces of history. Collections volunteer work includes, scanning and digitalizing photos, working with our doll collection, conducting oral histories, complete research for upcoming programs and events, ect. Volunteers will be required to complete different task based on the specific project.
Become a Tour Guide
We are looking for tour guides to provide interpretation of our historic homes, and the history of the complex through leading guided tours, and other interactions. Before and after tours, they are also responsible for opening and closing the buildings and guiding visitors across the complex. Our tours take place on Saturdays at 10:30AM. We provide tour guides with an extensive training and shadowing program.
Support Special Events
Throughout the year the Museum hosts a few different special events that require volunteers. These events include: The Community Easter Egg hunt, All Hallows Eve, Holiday, Winter Frostival and more. These volunteer shifts typically last 2-3 hours. Volunteers will assist at a variety of stations depending on the specific needs of the Special Event.
Join our Board
The mission of the Society shall be the collection, interpretation, preservation and presentation of information and objects concerning the history of Arlington Heights and its surrounding area. Join our active board to help us accomplish this mission. The board meetings the third Thursday of every month at 7PM.
Volunteer at the Farmers Market
The Arlington Heights Farmers Market runs on Saturdays, May-October. We need support setting up the market, welcoming greeters to the market, and tearing down the market. The market is run completely by AHHS volunteers and we would love for you to join our team! Learn more about these shifts or volunteer at the Farmers Market.
Artifact Donations
The Society collects items relating to Arlington Heights history, items which can be used in the interpretation of its period houses and log cabin, and items that relate to its special collections (such as our Doll and Dollhouse collection). All items must be in good condition and have no restrictions applied to the gift. Valuation of the donation is the sole responsibility of the donor.
