Stay active and engaged at the Arlington Heights Park District!
The Park District’s Active Adult Program at the Senior Center welcomes everyone – whether you’re fully retired, semi-retired, or still working. We offer a fun and affordable way to stay fit, creative and connected!

Age Requirements
For non-woodshop activities and tours, AHPD prioritizes registering patrons ages 50+ for Senior Center programs. Under 50 years old and want to participate in a Senior Center program? Call 847.797.5341 or visit AHPD at the Senior Center to be put on a waitlist or get an override.
Financial Assistance
AHPD works cooperatively with the Village of Arlington Heights Social Services Department on our Financial Assistance Program. Please call 847.368.5792 or visit the Village’s website for more information.
Refunds
Park District trips, luncheons, special events and contracted classes are non-refundable due to contract agreements. All regular, non-contracted recreation programs are refundable for any unused classes from the time of the refund request. A $5 administrative fee will be retained for each program a participant withdraws from. No refunds will be given after a program has ended.

Programming & Memberships
2025 Tour Membership
Museums! Performances! Restaurants! Casinos! Sporting events! Sound fun? If so, Arlington Classic Tours is for you! The Park District does all the planning. All you do is register, check in on the day of the tour, relax in the luxury motor coach arranged for the trip, and enjoy the activities. With over 50 one-day tours throughout each year, there’s something for everyone.
Become a Tour Club Member to receive benefits on each tour! Memberships end December 31 annually. To receive renewal rates, patrons must renew within 21 days of memberships expiration date. Beyond the 21 day grace period, patrons will pay the new member fee.
- Individual Membership: $25 ($20 renewal rate)
- Household Membership: $35 ($30 renewal rate)

50 Shades of Colored Pencils
This portable medium gives you the ability to make vivid and rich drawings that can look like paintings. Available for beginning and intermediate level artists.
Art of Acrylics
Learn to work with and create beautiful artwork with acrylic paints. Available for beginners and intermediate/advanced artists.
Beginning Crochet
You too can make afghans, coasters, scarves and more. Learn how to do basic stitches and read a pattern.
Crochet with Friends Drop-In
Crocheting is a relaxing hobby. This drop-in program lets you socialize with friends while working on your personal projects. An instructor is available for questions or advice. Supplies are not included.
Drawing
Drawing supports all art skills! Learn how to daw from still life and source materials as you develop your skills.
Quilting with Friends Drop-In
Work on your personal project while socializing with those who share your passion for quilting. An instructor is available for suggestions or questions. Supplies are not included.
Works of Art
Explore the fine art of portraiture or delve into creating a landscape, floral or still life. Just bring a photo to create into your masterpiece. Available for beginning and intermediate level artists.
Watercolors
Learn color mixing, materials and techniques with a wide variety of subject matter, guided by our instructor. All levels welcome
Step into rhythm, stay active and dance your way to fun and self-expression!
Ballet Basics
Discover the beauty of ballet in our class tailored for seniors. Develop coordination, balance and flexibility.
Broadway Bound
Join us to have fun as you learn different dances from Broadway musicals.
Chair Tap
Get a full tap dance experience, all while seated in a chair! Great for dancers seeking less balance required and low impact activity.
Dancing to the Oldies
Dance along to the best tunes of the last 70 years. Get your steps in, move your body and have fun!
Let’s Get Tapping Dance
This class focuses on Tap, a truly American dance style. Students learn tap moves, technique and choreography. Multiple sections available.
Line Dance Drop-In
Whether you are a novice or advanced, come enjoy camaraderie as your dance the night away! New dances and classic favorites await.
Whether you are learning a new game or sharpening your strategy, our instructors help you level up with fellow players.
Bridge
Missed out on learning in college? It’s never too late to learn this classic card game. Available for beginners, intermediate and advanced players.
Canasta
Step into the world of this captivating card game. Available for beginners and intermediate players.
Chess
Master the essentials of chess! From checkmate concepts to strategy, tactics and endgame basics, each session combines instruction with in-class games.
Mah Jongg
Crack! Bam! Dot! Learn a gun game, meet new people and exercise your brain. Available for beginner and intermediate players.
Explore a diverse range of classes to stay active and moving with instructors to guide the way!
3D Motion
Classes focuses on joint health, posture and balance through movements like lunges, arm presses and gentle stretches. Ideal for all fitness levels.
Chair Yoga
This class is great for the yoga student who does not feel comfortable getting on the floor. Learn all the techniques while sitting in a chair or at the balance barre.
Gentle Movement and Meditation
With a blend of guided meditation, mat work and gentle stretches you discover relaxation, flexibility and overall well-being.
Pickleball Conditioning
Work on building the skills and stamina you need to play pickleball safely with confidence
Tai Chi
Improve balance, posture, breathing and relax the mind while strengthening the muscles, tendons and joints. You’ll learn Qi Gong breathing and 24 forms of Tai Chi. Available for beginner and intermediate levels.
Yoga
Restore your mind, body and spirit through learning yoga flows. Floor routines are included.
Zumba Gold
Have fun in this innovative, fun and exciting class! Zumba Gold combines high energy music with unique moves and combinations focusing on elements of cardiovascular & muscular training as well as flexibility and balance.
Fun & Fit Membership
For unlimited attendance to aerobic and strength classes at the Senior Center, a Fun & Fit Membership is the way to go! Membership is required for class attendance.

Arlington Athletic Club
The Arlington Athletic Club is operated by the Park District and located within the Senior Center. Work out at your own pace in a casual relaxed atmosphere.
Club Features
Exercise equipment includes a multi-direction Cybex weight station, recumbent bikes, Schwinn airdyn bikes, treadmills, rowing machines, elliptical machines, NuSteps, free weights, and closed circuit TVs.

Want a tour?
Learn to safely sue AAC equipment with a tour. Available by appointment only on Tuesdays at 10:45AM, Wednesdays at 12:45PM and 3:30PM and Thursdays at 10:45AM and 1:45PM. Call 847.797.5341 to schedule.

Ignite your passion for woodworking and learn to use the woodshop machinery. The woodshop is a joint venture with the Village of Arlington Heights, The Senior Center, Inc. and Arlington Heights Park District.
Woodshop Membership
A safety evaluation and certification is required before purchasing a woodshop membership. Participants must be 18 years or older. Once evaluated and certified, you have access to the shop located in the Senior Center. There are eight complete work stations. Woodshop Classes
Beginner Woodworking
Develop the skills necessary to transform blocks of wood into unique objects or art guided by an instructor. Wood is provided. Participants receive a tool list on the first day of class for supplies they need to bring in.
Carve On
Learn to carve one-of-a-kind relief plaques, simple figures and other special projects through this specialized art form. It’s fun, relaxing, and rewarding! A supply list is available at the first class. Register early as space is limited.
Learn the Lathe
Delve into the world of wood turning using a lathe in our beginner-friendly class. Compete weekly projects, guided stop by step! No experience needed.
Build Your Own Birdhouse
Build your own birdhouse in one 3-hour session! Work one-on-one with the Senior Center Woodshop Coordinator to construct the birdhouse. Learn to safely use the table saw, chop saw, and drop press in the process. Participants must supply their own 1”x10” 8ft piece of #2 pine board. Available during regular Woodshop hours.
